Jean S. Bernstein

Without a website for me to read I need to recall her qualifications from memory. She has served for three years on the BOE in Clifton. She is to my knowledge the only candidate who lives in one of Franklin's adult communities. I have spoken to her at many BOE meetings because she attends frequently. She is pleasant, intelligent, down to earth, and has a firm grasp of the issues involving our schools.

She was the only candidate to get applause from the audience at the "Meet the Candidates Night" and she got them several times.

  • Moved to Franklin in 2004.
  • Is retired so can be a full time BOE member.
  • Wants an internal review of the school system to find waste.
  • Believes the standardized tests cause more harm then good (applause).
  • Believes we should be educating not standardizing (applause).
  • Wants to train teachers to be more creative.
  • When children misbehave wants them in an alternative program not out on the street where they are causing more problems (applause)*.
  • Teach teachers how to handle unruly children.
  • Parents must take responsibility (applause).
  • Supports this budget.
  • Teaching experience.
  • No children in the Franklin system.
  • Frequently at BOE meetings.

(*Note: NJ law forbids expelling children under 18. If you expel them you still have to pay for their education somewhere.)
