David Burns
Mr. Burns and Mr. Holzheimer appear to be running as a ticket. From their website we learn:
- Executive director of the National Center for Science and Civic Engagement.
- Founder and director of a project that works with over 300 colleges to improve learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
- Member of the Governor's Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
At "Meet the Candidates Night" he spoke well.
- Will vote yes on the budget but thinks it has problems that need correcting next year.
- Has 2 children in the Franklin school system.
- Wants more openness between the BOE and the community.
- Experience on other screening committees will be useful in choosing the next superintendent.
- Has developed methods for measuring the effectiveness of learning.
- Wants to train parents on how they can be more involved with their child's education.
- Disagrees with TUF's idea of an outside independent review of the budget, but at least has the integrity to tell me to my face.
- Teaching experience.
- Bemoaned unfunded mandates.
- Mr. Burns unfortunately has not been a frequent attendee of BOE meetings.
I do not know Mr. Burns well. My comments are based on two short conversations, his web site and "Meet the Candidates Night"
