David Burns

Mr. Burns and Mr. Holzheimer appear to be running as a ticket. From their website we learn:

  • Executive director of the National Center for Science and Civic Engagement.
  • Founder and director of a project that works with over 300 colleges to improve learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
  • Member of the Governor's Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

At "Meet the Candidates Night" he spoke well.

  • Will vote yes on the budget but thinks it has problems that need correcting next year.
  • Has 2 children in the Franklin school system.
  • Wants more openness between the BOE and the community.
  • Experience on other screening committees will be useful in choosing the next superintendent.
  • Has developed methods for measuring the effectiveness of learning.
  • Wants to train parents on how they can be more involved with their child's education.
  • Disagrees with TUF's idea of an outside independent review of the budget, but at least has the integrity to tell me to my face.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Bemoaned unfunded mandates.
  • Mr. Burns unfortunately has not been a frequent attendee of BOE meetings.

I do not know Mr. Burns well. My comments are based on two short conversations, his web site and "Meet the Candidates Night"
