John Moon
I've met Mr. Moon about three times. I find him to be sincere and well spoken. From his flyer we learn.
- Long time resident of Franklin (20 years).
- Former HS teacher.
- Former Professor.
- Retired Naval Commander.
- All American NCAA-NAIA.
- Member of 3 Halls of Fame.
- 2000 Olympic Track Coach.
- Currently on the Open Space and Recreation Committees.
- He encourages energy savings to save money.
- Better Communications between the BOE and the community.
- Control of gangs to increase safety in schools.
From the Meet the Candidates Night we learned.
- 4 Children that have gone through the system.
- Wants to increase the number of children going to college and increase SAT scores.
- Pointed out that HS teachers only teach 5 of 9 periods. Thought that there could be cost savings there (I checked on this, he did not point out that they spend 1 period doing things like study hall, 1 period at lunch and in the HS they have 2 periods to prepare for class. Perhaps there is room for savings here, perhaps not.)
- To control discipline the thought unruly children should be suspended. He did not appear to know that this is illegal.
- Does not frequently attend BOE meetings.
