BOE Election Candidate Announcement 2007 Initial post 3/8/07
The Board of Education (BOE) election will be on April 17th, 2007. It will include a request from the BOE for citizens to approve their budget. In addition we will be asked to chose three Board members. The Board is made up of nine members each with a three year term. Thus every year three people are chosen.
This year there are seven running, two of whom are incumbents (Phyllis Exter has decided to not run). The seven candidates are:
 |
- Jean S. Bernstein
- *Mairpearl Brooks
- David Burns
- Andrew Holzheimer
- *Michael A. Kanarek
- John Moon
- Shirley Y. Pietrucha
* incumbent

From the rumors we have heard there are many good candidates in the pack. We hope to get to know them and give you a little more than name recognition to go on when you vote.
TUF will follow this election closely including the budget. We will be running our candidates forum where we post anything that candidates wish us to post.
Eva Nagy, BOE President, was kind enough to email me that on March 12th, 2007 at 7:30 at the Franklin Middle School the BOE will present Budget 101 (a brief explanation of how to understand the budget) as well as the preliminary budget itself. The final budget presentation will be Monday March 26th at 7:30 pm.
No telling if they will be able to televise this but it would be a great way to kick off the start of covering BOE functions on Patmedia Channel 14.
