TUF's opinion on BOE Candidates
|
It is important that TUF maintains the trust of its readers. Thus I will disclose that this year Chip was unfortunately unable to attend "Meet the Candidates Night". Therefore this is written entirely by Phil Kramer. The reader should then take this as the opinion of a single person who has pent considerable time watching the BOE.
Hopefully you will find this more useful than name recognition from a sign. If I may critique my own work; my concern is that I've chosen 3 of the 4 people that I know the best. Thus though I've tried to be objective I'm concerned that I may have been subjective. Please take all of this into account as you read. If any candidate disagrees with what I've written I will publish any comments they send to me.
If you have the time I'd recommend rather then reading what I say. Watch Patmedia Channel 14, the BOE channel and watch the Meet the Candidates Night". Here is the schedule.

A general statement, this year's slate is an embarrassment of riches. We are truly fortunate to have so many highly qualified people eager to help run our school system. I will go down the list of candidates having had contact with all of them, some more than others. The order will be as they appear on the ballot. There are seven people running. You can vote for up to three.
Below are separate comments on each candidate Before that I want to make three points
- I have grown tired of hearing BOE members or candidates complaining about unfunded mandates and how we need to change Trenton and Washington D.C. I find that pie in the sky and pandering. So if a candidate has mentioned that I will simply state, "Bemoaned unfunded mandates".
- I'm always bewildered by people that run for Council and the BOE that have virtually never been to a Council or BOE meeting. If you are that interested then why aren't you attending them already? Therefore I will comment on this for each candidate.
- I have highlighted issues that I think are particularly important.

Phil Kramer's Ranking
I believe that little separates the top six candidates but this is the order that I would rank them. I endorse in the following order
|
Shirley Y. Pietrucha - line 3 on the ballot
Jean S. Bernstein - line 2
Michael A. Kanarek - line 4
Vote 2, 3, 4

The next three are in a virtual dead heat. I present them in alphabetical order. Perhaps Mr. Burns edges out the other two.

David Burns
Andrew Holzheimer
John Moon

I cannot support Mairpearl Brooks. I would have no issue with anyone picking any of the top six.
