Debate - Many people were upset that the debate was not open to the public. Please understand that the organization holding the debate has the right to invite anyone they wish to to speak at their establishment. This was a private, not a Township sponsored event. They were very concerned that they would not be able to accommodate the large numbers of people who asked to attend. Please do not call them to ask to attend or show up hoping to get in. We must respect their wishes. Doing otherwise will reflect poorly on TUF and our candidate.
About a month ago TUF considered having a debate but it was difficult to find a place to do it. The high school was not available. Places like the Garden State Convention Center cost $6,000 for the night. There were less expensive places but they could not hold the numbers.
Signs - Superior Court Judge Harriet Denman has signed the consent order. We can resume putting up signs on telephone poles actually we could a few days ago. Please do not obstruct traffic sight lines with the signs. Signs on there own poles must be 4 feet from the road if there is no side walk If there is a side walk they can not be between the road and side walk. No large displays of huge numbers of signs. No signs in front of official Open Space, churches, funeral homes and Municipal property. To get signs call 732-296-1827. To pick up material come to IBS 68 Veronica Avenue - Suite 4. I have to say while the response is good I was hoping for more people asking for signs. Sometimes we can deliver but other times delivering one sign might take the time it would take to put up 20. We will do what we can. We really need your help. Have you noticed that Grippo is sending you a brochure every day. We don't have the money that they do to do all those mailings.
Do Not Take Down Signs Of Other Candidates. Sadly the opposition is not following that rule. We have reports of TUF and REP signs being taken down on So. Middlebush, torn up and left on the ground. Only to be replaced by Grippo signs. So much for their claim of protecting civic beauty. Don't play this game. Take the high road. Win, lose or draw the 1st Amendment must be respected. If you see someone doing this get a license place number and report them to Township Manager Daly at 732-873-2500 ext 201.
You do NOT need a permit to put up a sign. We have a court order from Superior Court Judge Harriet Denman.
Please excuse any spelling and grammar errors. It's 11:55 PM in a long line of very late nights.
