Subject: TUF Mail #6-1 Fair Share
Plan/Over Development, BOE Oversight and Televised meetings, Crossroads
Fair Share Plan/Over Development - In what has been referred to as the fair share plan, COAH (Council
on Affordable Housing) has tasked municipalities around the state with
providing New Jersey with affordable housing.
That's good. We are concerned
however about what Franklin's Council and Planning Board have in mind to
fulfill the requirements. The current
plan appears to be harmful in virtually every way imaginable. First it will add
to traffic in an area in Franklin that is already clogged. Second, it will,
according to our school board president Eva Nagy, increase the number of
students in our school system by about 400.
That will increase the BOE budget by at least $4,000,000 every year and
threaten us with the need to build another school . Third it will encroach on wetlands and
wildlife habitat.
We received a Planning Board meeting announcement from Doris Bennett -
http://www.betuf.org/URGENTfeb12006.pdf. For more information about the effects
of fair share we point you to a North Brunswick website devoted to this
subject. http://www.savenewjersey.org/resource.htm. Included at this site is an
opertunity to sign a petition.
BOE Oversight and Televised
Meetings - For several months I have, as TUF's director, been going
to BOE (Board of Education) meetings asking them each time to have an outside
independent review of their operational budget to see if the money is being
spent correctly. Today the Home News
Tribune printed my letter to the editor on the subject.

We need others to go to the next BOE meeting and voice
their opinion about these issues (Feb 16th at 7:30 at the Franklin Middle
School Auditorium). If you agree with me
then during the public speaking portion of the meeting say so. IF you disagree then say that but either way
Franklin needs its citizens to get involved.
If you do not wish to speak then applaud for other that share your
beliefs.
Crossroads - We are
at a crossroads in Franklin. The
development associated with the fair share plan will effect Franklin taxes and
lifestyles for decades. Many of the subscribers on the TUF list write us
complaining about taxes, traffic and overdevelopment but to make a
difference, to effect change you have to help. All we ask now is that you show up at
meetings and if you are inclined to speak out then do so. This is your government and your town but
only if you want it to be. You can stay
at home and boil over every time you get your tax bill or you can come out now,
voice your opinion to the council and BOE and make change. Then if that does work you will know who
listened to you and who didn't and can vote them out. The choice is yours. Spend the time now or pay the taxes later.
Planning board meeting - Feb
1st at 7:30 Municipal building 475 Demott Lane.
BOE meeting - Feb 16th at
7:30 at the Franklin Middle School Auditorium (Old High school)
