Our Homes Are NOT for Sale
Rally Against The Abusive Use of Eminent Domain
Friends and neighbors;
A group of home owners whose homes are currently threatened by the new Pathmark redevelopment project off of Franklin Blvd. in Franklin, are planning to hold a protest rally and a picket along Route 27 in Franklin this Sunday.
The community is trying to bring attention to the upcoming vote in front of Council this Tuesday when the Church's redevelopment subsidiary, the CDC, is asking for the change in the Redevelopment Plan. This change will involve the bulldozing of 56 private homes and properties.
The developer this portion of the Renaissance Redevelopment project is the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens. It is the belief of these residents that The Church has ignored the recommendation of the Redevelopment Plan advisors and is unjustly converting their residential area to a commercial use.
The Church is now requesting Council to additionally modify The Redevelopment Plan to include eight additional properties which previously had not been included in the Redevelopment Plan.
Many of the protesters are elderly citizens that intended to retire in their quiet neighborhood, others are relatives and some are parents who moved to the community in order to raise their families in a single family home environment which was both affordable and safe.
Their message is simple and clear: "OUR HOMES ARE NOT FOR SALE!"
The rally will begin @ 10:30 AM and will run till 1:30 PM, this Sunday, July 11, near the First Baptist Church on Route 27 and Franklin Boulevard.
The protest/rally is against using Eminent Domain to take private homes and in particular is against the First Baptist Church's proposed destruction of their neighborhood.
All supporters and sympathizers who oppose the Towns Eminent Domain abuse are welcome to attend, as are all media personnel and reporters.
